The Story

Hanuman is who many of us call when we are afraid.

Not only in temples. In hospital corridors, before exams, on a dark road home. The Hanuman Chalisa is forty verses, and it is usually said fast, in one breath, almost without thinking.

One verse says what the whole prayer is for. All comforts are found in your refuge. With you as protector, what is there to fear?

That line does not beg for protection. It assumes it.

सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना। तुम रक्षक काहू को डरना॥

What You Wear

Illustrated by mythologist and artist Devdutt Pattanaik, scenes from the Hanuman Chalisa sit in a grid across a cream camp-collar shirt: Hanuman carrying his flag, seated with folded hands, crossing the sea.

The grid is built from the verse itself. सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना, तुम रक्षक काहू को डरना runs in Devanagari along every line, so each scene sits inside a wall of words.

Short sleeves, wooden buttons, and the verse carried onto the sleeve edges.

Pavanputra means son of the wind, one of Hanuman's oldest names. The verse is the wall, and the figure inside it is the one you call.

Why It Matters

At Anahat, we believe mythology is not behind us. It is within us.

Most protection is built from stone or metal. This one is built from a sentence, said by millions of people for centuries, usually when they most need it.

Pavanputra is not armour. It is a reminder that you are not standing there alone.
